I made the mistake of leaving them largely on during a comments holiday. Lambert warned readers about the need to stay on topic, reasoned, provide evidentiary support, and argue in good faith. Enough of you have fallen well below these requirements so as to necessitate shutting down comments entirely. It is too exhausting intervening in comments to maintain some semblance of quality when conduct degenerates, as it has.
